Auto Insurance – Bad Perception Threatens Our Insurance Protection.
Wheter you’ve an accident and it is found that you would failed to maintain your car roadworthy, for example excessively worn tyres, & that was a contributory factor in the accident, your insurer will maybe refuse to pay up. & the police may also specify an interest too! Quite practicable multiple of you will say. But what if it is you that’s un-roadworthy?
How various driving accidents are accompanied through the comment “I didn’t see the other vehicle”? & what happens if the trouble was your eyesight? Has it deteriorated to a risky extent?
Well every of us clearly know wheter we have an eyesight trouble but there are opticians to help on each high street. Bear in mind, if you require contact lenses or glasses for driving then you should wear them & wheter your eyesight deteriorates you must reach a new recommendation. It’s the officially authorized task of all drivers to ensure that they’re secure to drive.
Just last week I drew up alongside an old people driver who was clearly having problem reading the junction signs. He was leaning forward trying to read the signs indicating towards Leeds and rolling forward at 10 mph – all this at visitors lights that by this time had turned red – and he clearly hadn’t seen those! He was lucky that the cars coming across from the correct saw him early. I’m not though sure he saw them either!
The rule is pretty straightforward – it states that any driving licence holder who cannot meet the smallest stage of eyesight should not drive. They’re also needed to surrender their licence.
The eyesight test for drivers’ states that you should be capable to read a number plate containing letters & figures 50 mm wide & 79mm high (that’s a legal number plate) from a distance of 20 meters. But you can purpose your driving glasses.
Having said that there is no legal obligation for you to have normal eyesight tests but you are required to tell the DVLA if you boost any health trouble that affects your fitness to drive. Wheter you don’t tell them, it is a criminal offence.
In a few American states drivers have to choose an eye test each 5 years but not in the UK. Here, driver aged 70 & over must complete a medical form each 3 years confirming their fitness to drive and the definition of “fitness” includes eyesight. If theses drivers fail to send in their health form, they lose their driving licence. (I wonder what that elderly gentleman at the traffic lights said on his?)
On the insurance plan front, when you are involved in an accident where your defective eyesight was a contributory factor, your insurance plan company might well argue that you were negligent and refuse to pay out. This can be easily because you needed glasses to drive but were not wearing them at the event.
